The Dandi March that took place in 1930, from the 12th March to the 21st May, was launched as the Salt Satyagraha. Gandhi began this march from Sabarmati Ashram on the 12th of of March, and reached Dandi on the 5th of April. He picked up salt from the seashore at Dandi, and thus transgressed the British Salt Law. The March was seen as a non-violent 'raid', as the followers of Gandhi were seen as unarmed soldiers who were dressed in white dhotis and Gandhi caps, embodying Gandhi's non-violent movement against the British. Gandhi was arrested by the British for breaking their laws time and again.
