Mahadev Desai, a lawyer, was Gandhi's personal secretary. For 25 years, he was associately very closely with Gandhi. According to Gandhi, Desai had three fine qualities, namely, intelligence, fidelity and regularity. Gandhi once said to him, ""I have got in you the man I wanted. The man to whom I can entrust all my work some day and be at ease, and to whom I can rely with confidence." Desai was imprisoned along with Gandhi after the Quit India resolution was ratified on the 9th of August, 1942. He suffered a fatal heart attack after six days of imprisonment, despite being merely 50 years of age.
